Norb's Auto Repair and Jean's Surplus were in downtown Soldotna in 1963. These buildings were located on the Sterling Highway in the vicinity of the present Thompson's Corner with Jersey Subs and other stores. In the early 1960s, crude plywood buildings were the norm in Soldotna and Kenai. Jean sold work clothes, tools, tents and tarps. There is a single snowshoe and single bunny boot tacked on the wall in case you needed only one. At Norb's if you needed work under your vehicle you had to wait until breakup was over and the pond drained. This text was written by Marge Mullen and Alan Boraas.
