SoHi captures state mock trial titleStaff report For the first time in school history, Soldotna High School won the Alaska State Mock Trial Championship. The team will now travel to New Orleans for national competition May 9 and 10.
Six SoHi students, five seniors and one junior, won the state title in Anchorage, where they competed against 14 other teams from around the state March 7 and 8.
Team members include Jennifer McCard, a senior and four-year team member; Haley Smith, senior and three-year team member; Pehr Hartvigson, senior and three-year team member; Ryan Myers, junior and three-year team member; Justin Johnson, senior and two-year team member; and Matthew Meacham, senior and two-year team member.
The students prepared both the plaintiff and defense sides of the case, and each member played the role of an attorney and a witness, according to faculty adviser LaDawn Druce.
She said the students are seeking donations to help pay for the trip to New Orleans, and anyone wishing to donate may do so by contacting Soldotna High School.
