Around the PeninsulaGeneral clinic offered in Nikolaevsk

The Homer public health nurse will be at Nikolaevsk School from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today for a general clinic, including immunizations, well-child checks and pregnancy tests.

The Homer Public Health Center will be closed March 31 for Seward's Day.

Health center taking appointments

Cottonwood Health Center, a primary medical care facility which provides care to patients regardless of ability to pay, is scheduling appointments instead of seeing patients on a walk-in basis. Same-day appointments are accepted between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The center is at 170 E. Coral St. in Soldotna. For more information, call 262-3119.

Clinic closed for week

The Kachemak Bay Family Planning Clinic will be closed this week. The clinic will reopen March 24 with normal business hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

NAMI meets tonight

NAMI of Soldotna and Kenai will sponsor a support group and educational meeting for people experiencing mental health issues. The educational portion of the meeting will consist of an informative video about schizophrenia, called "The Shattered Mind." A support group meeting will follow . The meeting will run from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Fort Kenay. For more information, call Sharlott at 335-0025.

Alliance to meet Tuesday

State to conduct review of disability services

The state of Alaska will conduct its regularly scheduled review of the developmental disabilities services provided by Frontier Com-munity Services. The review will run from Tuesday through March 20. Individual interviews can be scheduled by calling 260-7736 or 262-6331.

Social Security rep to visit peninsula

A representative from the Social Security Administration will be at Kenai City Hall from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday and at the Homer Senior Citizens Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday. For more information, call (800) 772-1213.

Guitar classes offered

The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Kenai Peninsula will offer a beginning guitar class March 24 at the Kenai clubhouse. Participants must be between the ages of 9 and 18. Dustin Aaronson will instruct the class, which will meet Mondays from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. The cost is $50 for six classes. Registration will be taken until Wednesday, or until the 15 student limit is met. Participants do not have to have their own guitars, but participants must reserve guitars in advance. Safe Sitter course planned

Central Peninsula General Hospital will offer a Safe Sitter class Thursday and Friday for boys and girls ages 11 to 13. The course costs $50, which includes all class materials. For more information or to sign up, call Michelle at 262-8172.

Oilers offer scholarships

The Peninsula Oilers Baseball Club Inc. will award four $500 scholarships -- one to each central peninsula high school -- to seniors graduating in 2003. In addition, the Oilers Baseball Booster Club Inc. will offer one $1,000 scholarship and one $500 scholarship to graduating seniors from any accredited high school program within the Kenai Peninsula Borough.

Applicants must apply to each organization separately, and all applications must be received by 5 p.m. March 31.
