Nikiski Elementary

Posted: Wednesday, March 17, 2004

The committee planning the closing ceremonies for Nikiski Elementary is looking for memorabilia, pictures and anything of interest to help celebrate the history of the school. The ceremony is being planned for May 15. Items may be brought to the school office or given to Audrey at the Nikiski Post Office. Volunteers are needed for this ceremony.

The third- through sixth-grade spelling bee was March 10. The results were as follows: Tekoa Dixon, first place; Caitlin Reid, first runner-up; and Calvin Williams, second runner-up. Dixon will compete at the state spelling bee in Anchorage on April 21 and 22.

Mrs. Kendall's sixth-graders went snowshoeing at the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. They studied winter ecology during their hike, learned how to use snowshoes and played games on the frozen lake.

Winners of the Nikiski Elementary forensics competition were Nichole Monroe and Alina Eldredge, sixth-grade multiple prose; Chris Ward, sixth-grade single nonhumorous; Angie Parrish and Mandee Jackson, fifth-grade multiple poetry; Caitlin Ried, fifth-grade single humorous poetry; Colt McDonald, fourth-grade single humorous poetry; and Dylan Holloway, fourth-grade single storytelling. Winners of the competition also presented their pieces at an all-school assembly.
