Parade scheduled today

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce will hold its 14th annual St. Patrick's Day parade and celebration. The parade will begin at 4:30 p.m. today. The route will follow the Kenai Spur Highway from Bailey's Furniture to the "Y" in Soldotna.

A family style Irish dinner of Irish stew served in sourdough bowls will begin at 6 p.m. at the Soldotna Sports Center followed by an auction. A fireworks display will begin at 9 p.m. For complete information and to purchase a ticket, call 262-9814.

Corned beef dinner planned

The Sterling Senior Center will host a corned beef and cabbage dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the center in honor of St. Patrick's Day.

Applications for visitor services available

The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge has applications for conducting commercial visitor services on the refuge available.

A special-use permit is required for conducting any commercial visitor services on refuge lands and waters, including portions of the Kenai River with in refuge boundaries. There are limited numbers of permits available that are awarded by competitive selection.

Applications will be accepted in person at refuge headquarters or that are sent in and postmarked no later than April 1. The permit year runs May 1 through April 30, 2006. Little League begins registration

The Kenai Little League will hold registration from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 2 and 9 at the Kenai Safeway store and online at For more information, call Kristy Hughes at 283-5462.

FAS training planned

Frontier Community Services will sponsor a workshop on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome from 3 to 9 p.m. April 1 and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 2 at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center.

Deb Evensen-Hill will instruct. The topic will be individuals with FAS in a school setting. The cost is $25. Parent scholarships are available. University of Alaska Anchorage graduate credit is available.

Red Cross offers renewal classes

The American Red Cross of Alaska will hold a renewal class for adult CPR and first aid from 6 to 10 p.m. April 6 at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Building on Kalifornsky Beach Road. It will fulfill the requirements for a six-pack license. The cost is $35. For more information or to register, call 262-4541.
