Hakkinen takes 65th in sprint

Kasilof biathlete Jay Hakkinen finished 65th in a World Cup 10-kilometer biathlon sprint Thursday in Kontiolahti, Finland.

The sprint has two five-shot shooting stages — a prone and a standing. For each miss, competitors ski a 150-meter penalty loop. Hakkinen had three misses at the prone stage. He did not miss in the standing stage, but could never make up the gap from the misses in the prone stage. Hakkinen also was battling the effects of a cold. His finish does not qualify him for the 12.5-kilometer pursuit at Kontiolahti on Saturday.
