Longtime Alaskan and Heritage Place resident Jean Carol Partch died Sunday, March 14, 2010 at Heritage Place. She was 78.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, at Heritage Place. Meg Zerbinos will officiate.

Mrs. Partch was born Nov. 14, 1931 in Spokane, Wash. She attended and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School. She moved to Alaska in September 1989 and resided at Heritage Place.

She enjoyed reading, cooking, knitting, sewing and gardening.

"Jean was a loving daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. She fought a 55-year battle with multiple sclerosis. It took her ability to walk and participate in the many hobbies she enjoyed in her youth, but it never took the spirit or determination she had to lead a full life. Jean's greatest joy came from watching her grandchildren grow into adults. She was very proud of both of them.

"She touched many lives as a 20-year resident of Heritage Place Nursing Home in Soldotna. She considered the staff and volunteers that cared for her, with such dignity and respect, as extended family members. She passed away peacefully with her family at her side and she will be greatly missed," her family said.

Mrs. Partch was preceded in death by her parents, Philo and Hazel Sage, her husband, Wilbur Earl Partch and a daughter, Mary Alice Partch.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Richard Fraser of Kasilof; granddaughter and husband, Holly and Leif Abel of Kasilof; and a grandson, Glen Fraser of Buckland.

Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
