Former NMFS official cited on crab pot charge

JUNEAU (AP) -- The former regional administrator for the National Marine Fisheries Service in Alaska has been cited for using illegal crab pots in Auke Bay.

Steven Pennoyer, 64, was cited by Fish and Wildlife Troopers on Wednesday.

Pennoyer was operating a personal use crab pot that did not meet the biodegradable escape mechanism requirements, according to the citation.

Pennoyer is scheduled to be arraigned in Juneau District Court on March 28.

Pennoyer also is a former deputy commissioner for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
