Note: Soldotna community classes do not meet this week, Monday through Sunday, due to spring break. The following two classes are exceptions:

This week

Safe Sitter with Michelle Banta, Safe Sitter coordinator. The program teaches baby-sitters how to handle major and minor medical emergencies and proper child-care skills including: injury prevention, rescue breathing, care for a choking infant or child, accident management, first aid, the business of baby-sitting, basic child care, safety and behavior management. Parent permission sheet is required. Scholarships available. Bring a sack lunch.

Two days, Monday and Tuesday or Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 11 years and older, Central Peninsula General Hospital, Borealis room, $50.

Girl Scout Mission to Mars with Joyce Cox, Kenai Peninsula Girl Scout coordinator. A full, hands-on space mission to Mars. Each participant will experience working from both the space craft and mission control. Preregistration is required. Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m., fourth through seventh grades, Challenger Learning Center, $42.

Tumbling and Movement with Melissa Daugherty, 15-year gymnastics coach, safety certified through the U.S. Gymnastics Federation. From beginning to intermediate tumbling for boys and girls -- work with movement equipment and on balance beam and floor for greater strength, flexibility and coordination. All ages meet for seven weeks at the Sterling Elementary School gym starting the week of April 1. First through third grades meet from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays. Fourth through sixth grades meet from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursdays. Cost for first through sixth grades is $40. Ages 3 through kindergarten meet from 4:30 to 5 p.m. Thursdays. Cost is $30.

Successful Money Management Seminar with Milo Jurik, registered representative with Summit Brokerage Services. Participants will learn how to manage money, potentially minimize taxes, save and invest, allocate investments, create a plan to help achieve financial objectives and reduce insurance costs. Three weeks, Tuesdays starting March 26, 6 to 9 p.m., teens and adults, Soldotna Middle School library, $40 in advance, $60 at the door. Registered participants may bring a spouse or guest at no extra charge, but pairs will receive only one set of materials.
