Area students named to deans' lists

Carrie Pattison of Nikiski was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at George Fox University in Newberg, Ore. She is a sophomore majoring in political science and is the daughter of Wayne and Lynette Pattison of Nikiski. To be named to the dean's list, students must be full time and achieve a grade point average of at least 3.5.

Eric Minelga of Soldotna was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas. He is a freshman studying mechanical engineering. He is the son of Paul and Ulli Minelga of Soldotna and is a 2001 graduate of Cook Inlet Academy. To be named to the dean's list, students must achieve a grade point average of at least 3.75.

Kenai woman graduates from college with family help

Rene R. (Wilson) Schimmel graduated from the University of Washington with a biology degree in December. She plans to teach elementary school in the future.

She is the daughter of Russell and Constance Wilson of Kenai, wife of Jeremy Schimmel and mother of Samuel Schimmel, 2.

Kenai woman graduates in Texas

Ambra Louise Davis of Kenai graduated from Abilene Christian University in Texas with a business degree in management.

Seward man enlists in Army

Benjamin J. Sauer of Seward has enlisted in the U.S. Army. He is a 2001 graduate of Seward High School and the son of Melody M. Moline and stepson of John L. Moline, both of Seward. His test score and enlistment as a wheel vehicle repairer qualifies him for a $1,000 cash incentive. He is in basic training at Fort Knox, Ky.

Peninsula athletes win at Special Olympics

Area winners of the Central Peninsula Special Olympics, held March 8-10, were:

Johnnayn Bishop, gold medal, level one singles figure skating

Robert Dillon, bronze medal, novice alpine slalom; fourth place, novice alpine downhill

Jenny Giles, gold medal, 50-meter snowshoeing; silver medal, 25-meter snowshoeing; bronze medal, 100-meter snowshoeing

John McIntosh, silver medals, 10-meter alpine walk; silver medal, alpine glide; silver medal, alpine super glide

Richard Reger, gold medal, advanced giant slalom; silver medal, intermediate downhill.; fourth place, advanced alpine downhill

Joe Romig, gold medal, novice giant slalom; silver medal, novice slalom; fourth place, novice downhill

Samantha Romig, silver medal, novice downhill; silver medal, novice slalom.

Elijah Stafford, gold medal, novice downhill

Rob Wilusz, gold medal, 100-meter snowshoeing; silver medal, 200-meter; silver medal, 50-meter snowshoeing.
