Spenard Builders Supply offers scholarship

Applications are available for high school seniors to apply for the Spenard Builders Supply scholarship. A $2,000 to $4,000 scholarship will be awarded to an Alaska high school senior pursuing a vocational career for the benefit of Alaska's future. Applicants must have a grade point average of at least 2.6, be enrolled in or have completed vocational courses and have well-defined vocational goals. Applications are due April 15 and the winner will be announced by May 15. Applications are available through high school counselors or at any Spenard Builders Supply store. Senate internships open to high school seniors

U.S. Alaska Sen. Frank Murkowski is seeking 20 mature and independent graduating Alaska high school seniors to work as summer interns in Washington, D.C. Interns will perform administrative and legislative duties in the senator's Washington office, attend lectures by government officials, shadow the senator during his daily schedule and participate in tours and social events. Interns can attend either the June 1 through 29 or July 6 through Aug. 6 session.

Applications are available through high school counselors or by contacting any of the senator's offices. They also are online at murkowski.senate.gov.

Host families needed for exchange students

Cultural Homestay International is seeking families to host exchange students from South America and Europe. The students will attend American high schools and learn about day-to-day life in America. Families of all ages, with or without children, are eligible to host exchange students. For more information, call Maria at (800) 210-6080.

Homer Community School adds classes

Homer Community School has extended its spring program to include three new classes for contractors, homeowners and builders. The classes are Review of the 2000 International Residential Code, Review of the 2000 IRC Footings and Foundations Code and Indoor Air Quality.
