Local Elks Hoop Shoot State Champs head for Oregon regional competition

Kelsey VanAntwerp has been shooting hoops since she was four years old, and at nine years of age she is on her way to Oregon to compete in the regional Elks Hoop Shoot competition. Kelsey shot her way to the regional competition by sinking 17 free throws out of 25 and winning the state title at the Soldotna Elks Lodge #2706 annual District Hoop Shoot. "My dad has helped me a lot this year, since I was about four he has been a real important part of my life and has helped me in sports," said Kelsey.

Kelsey's good friend at Redoubt Elementary School, 11-year-old Karen Senette, is returning to the regional competition for the third year in a row, compiling a free throw average that would make Shaq envious. She took her third straight state title by dunking 20 out of 25 shots from the free throw line. Karen hopes to win her first regional Elks title in Oregon after placing fourth in last year's competition.

For winning the state title, the girls receive an official State Champ warm-up suit, and an all expense paid trip to Oregon with a parent compliment of the Elks club. In addition to the excitement of competing at the regional Elks Hoop Shoot, the girls will get a chance to see the Seventy-sixers play the Trailblazers in a professional NBA game.
