Community support for hockey tournament appreciated

The Kenai Peninsula Hockey Association was proud to host the Pee Wee Tier II State Hockey Tournament March 3-6. One of the games was played at the Kenai rink, while 27 were played at the Soldotna Sports Center. On behalf of KPHA, I would like to thank the community for its support and for coming out to the games and cheering on the Ice Hawks.

In particular, I would like to thank the following businesses for their financial support of the tournament: McDonald's, Baker Oil Tools, The Floor Center, Kalifonsky Lodging and Guide Service, Brubstake Griff's Guide and Outfitters, ConocoPhillips, the Anchorage Aces, UAA Athletic Department, Coca-Cola of Kenai, Kaladi Brothers, Food Services of America, Instant Replay, Endsley's Soldotna Chiropractic, Dr. Bobbie Behrens, Arctic Winter Games, Agrium, R&K Industrial, Salamatof Seafoods, Coffee Concepts, Red Line Sports, Orca Theater, Circle CR Photography, Arby's, The Sports Section, Sundog, PSI, Finish Line Collision, Cozy Cushions and Buddy's Garage.

Without the help of the staff at both facilities and many volunteers, KPHA could not have put on this tournament. We would like to thank everyone who helped with opening ceremonies, a spaghetti dinner, a hospitality room and a puck shooting cage; in addition to those who helped with off-ice officiating during all the games. We would also like to thank Karin Williamson, who tolerated repeated pleas to play "Who Let the Dogs Out"; Dick Swarner, Herb Stettler and other members of the VFW, and Chris Hayes. Additional thanks to Johnny Bea and Ben Boycott.

All of us associated with the KPHA Pee Wee Tier II Team feel very fortunate to live in our generous community.
