JUNEAU (AP) Gov. Frank Murkowski will choose between two candidates to head the Department of Fish and Game.
The Boards of Fisheries and Game agreed Monday to nominate Kevin Duffy, the acting commissioner, and John Hilsinger, a former regional commercial fisheries supervisor, for the job.
It will be up to Murkowski to decide between the two.
Murkowski spokesman John Manly said he expects the governor will make his choice soon.
State law requires the governor to pick a commissioner from among candidates nominated by the two boards.
The boards had earlier been at an impasse over whom to nominate. The fish board wanted to send both names to the governor, while the game board favored just sending Hilsinger's name. Supporters of Hilsinger said he had a stronger scientific background.
