Alaska Sea Grant program hires new director

ANCHORAGE (AP) The Alaska Sea Grant College Program at the University of Alaska Fairbanks has hired Brian Allee as its new director.

Allee's most recent position was with the Northwest Power Planning Council's fish and wildlife division in Oregon. He also is a former director of Alaska's salmon hatchery system. He took over his new position last month.

Allee has a doctorate in fisheries, and during his 30-year career has worked in Alaska, California, Washington, Oregon, Florida and Brazil.

The Sea Grant program has an annual budget of over $2 million. It pays for research, education and public outreach on marine life and ecosystems.
