Clarion announces management change

Tom Janz, formerly the marketing and circulation manager for the Peninsula Clarion, has been promoted to general manager of the Alaska Star, a weekly publication in Eagle River.

Doug Munn has been named the Clarion's new circulation manager.

The promotions were announced last week by Stan Pitlo, publisher of the Clarion and director of Alaska newspapers for Morris Commun-ications Corp.

Janz and Munn assumed their new duties Monday.

"It's exciting for us to promote from within our organization," said Pitlo in announcing the changes. "These two employees have done an outstanding job for us over the years."

Before joining the Clarion's management team in October 1995, Janz had been manager of Pay-N-Save in Soldotna. He has lived on the Kenai Peninsula since 1988. He and his wife, Vicki, have one son, Matt, a freshman the University of Idaho Moscow.

Janz has been active in the Soldotna Rotary Club and Soldotna Chamber of Commerce. He served as Soldotna chair for United Way in 2002-2003, was on the board of directors of the Peninsula Oilers and chaired the parks and recreation advisory committee for the city of Soldotna.

Munn has been with the Clarion in various positions since 1991, when he first moved to the peninsula. Most recently, he worked as the Clarion's assistant circulation manager. He and his wife, Nicki, have three children.

Munn is president of and Kenai Peninsula Pop Warner Football and Cheer organization and coaches for the Boys and Girls Club of the Kenai Peninsula.

Morris Communications Corp. is a privately held media company with several properties in Alaska. In addition to the Clarion and Alaska Star, it also owns the Homer News, the Juneau Empire, the Alaska Journal of Commerce, The Milepost, Alaska magazine and six Anchorage area radio stations.
