Longtime Soldotna resident James Daniel Thomason died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Thunderbird Samaritan Hospital in Peoria, Ariz. He was 64.

Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, at Peninsula Memorial Chapel, 5839 Kenai Spur Highway in Kenai. Rick Abbott will officiate. Military honors will be performed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10046 and the American Legion Post No. 20. Inurement and military honors will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 24, at Fort Richardson National Cemetery in Fort Richardson.

Mr. Thomason was born March 7, 1940, in Bluefield, W.V. He joined the U.S. Air Force and served in Vietnam, receiving numerous medals and awards, including the Army of Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Longevity Award, Outstanding Unit Award and a Campaign Medal. He retired after 21 years in the Air Force.

Shortly after retiring, Mr. Thomason moved to the Kenai Peninsula and worked at United Building Supply. He then began his second career working for Spenard Building Supply as the manager of the Kenai store, where he worked for 15 years.

"Jim was a wonderful carpenter and loved fishing, camping, sitting around campfires and telling stories. He also loved the outdoors and hunting. Jim had a great sense of humor and was a very charismatic person. He was very generous and would help anyone that was in need. Jim was so proud of his children's accomplishments, he loved them very much. He thoroughly enjoyed and loved his grandchildren Chris, Brittni, Angelica and C.J. His nieces and nephews were also very special to him. Jim was a loving husband of 45 years, a great dad, and wonderful 'pepere.' Jim, you were loved by everyone and will be missed tremendously, 'je t'aime mon amour,'" his family said.

Mr. Thomason was preceded in death by his father, William Thomason; and nephew, David Hager.

He is survived by his wife, Nicolle Thomason of Soldotna; mother, Mildred Thomason of Bluefield, W.V.; son and daughter in-law, Dan Thomason and Kathy Greer of Port Angeles, Wash.; daughter and son-in-law, Carole and Pat Nolden of Soldotna; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Lisa Thomason of Peoria; sister, Betty Hager of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyllis and George Jones of Sheffield Lake, Ohio, Lois Chandler and Al of Milford, Ohio, Nancy and Lenny Wilkins of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Brenda Bailey and Tom of Princeton, W.V., and Benitta and Roy Scott of Princeton; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Patty Thomason of Princeton, Aubrey and Phyllis Thomason of Princeton, Rick and Barb Thomason of Pfafftown, N.C., Mike and Dolly Thomason of Forest, Va., Billy and Theresa Thomason of Bluefield and Stuart and Pina Thomason of Roanoke, Va.

In lieu of memorial contributions, prayers for the family would be appreciated.
