His family wrote: "Anyone who met Dennis never forgot him, His smile, razor sharp wit, and terrific sense of humor made him that unique individual who made friends easily wherever he went. He was an honest, hardworking man from humble beginnings with little education who built successful businesses. He always took care of his loved ones. Dennis often said he had done everything he set out to do in his life. He travelled all over Alaska and the world for work and pleasure, enjoying it all. Dennis died the way he lived -- his own way -- resolute to the end to die in his own home in his own bed with his family near him. We will miss him forever." His brother and sister-in-law added: "Dennis was not only an amazing brother, but our best friend. We cherished the times we could be with him and Vera as as I (Phyllis) told Dennis the last time we talked, I was going to ask the Lord for a house right next door to him in heaven. He will be sorely missed, but much loved."
