Local American Legion members take command

Kenai resident Thomas Schanrock Sr. was named Commander of the American Legion Department of Alaska Western District at the group's convention earlier this month in Anchorage. Schanrock is a 25-year member of the George H. Plumley Memorial Post #20, in Kenai, and is also involved with the 40 & 8, VFW, Am Vets, the Moose Lodge and the Elks. Austin R. Dias, a member of the post's S.A.L. (Sons of the American Legion), was named its S.A.L. district commander. Austin is a freshman at Kenai Central High Schcool. The American Legion celebrated its 96th anniversary on Tuesday, March. 15.
