City trash truck strikes and kills Anchorage man

Posted: Tuesday, March 21, 2000

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- An elderly man died Monday when he was struck by a trash truck while crossing a downtown street, police said.

Ki Ha Song, 83, was walking across Sixth Avenue near an intersection at the municipal bus station when he was hit by the truck, which was driven by Kurt K. Froenig, according to police spokesman Ron McGee. The Anchorage Refuse truck apparently stopped for a traffic light at the intersection before striking Song.

Froenig, 30, was not cited. Police are continuing an investigation, McGee said.
