Alternate hair color for Alternative School principal

Posted: Wednesday, March 21, 2001

While many school principals are known for getting gray hair from their work, Dennis Dunn, principal at Kenai Alternative School, may be the first to have gone flaming orange from his work. "What happened is one of my students came in with a, shall I say flamboyant do, and I just sort of spoke without thinking and said, hey, you kids raise 100 bucks of your own money for our new PE equipment by the end of the year dance, and I'll dye my hair that color," said Dunn last week after being interrupted at a staff meeting by a photographer. Faxes and e-mails started flying across the district immediately thereafter and one of the students made a "Do Donation Can." The fund has now grown to $350 and Dunn is wearing the "do" with pride. His goatee and mustache remain their natural color, but says Dunn, "If someone wanted to make a very specific proposition with a big sum for a good cause, I just might entertain that." Anyone interested in making such a proposition or additional donation for the students at Kenai Alternative School and call Dennis Dunn or Phyllis Halstead at 283-7844.
