Community support means kids can learn life skills on BB court

The Boys and Girls Club Seventh-Eighth Grade 2001 Basketball League recently concluded another great season! Thanks to the help and support of our wonderful community nearly 170 seventh- and eighth-grade boys and girls from all over the area had the opportunity to have some fun and learn about teamwork, discipline, responsibility and respect.

Many, many thanks to the dedicated coaches who donated many, many hours of their time to make sure every kid had a positive experience: Clint Chappell, Doug Jung, Cedric Scott, Phil Reemtsma, Jim Jenckes, Doug Blossom, Debbie Blossom, Dan Poppin, Joe Pazar, Robert Dover, Scott Foster, Lonnie McMilin, Jeff Mills, LaRae Bartolowits, Bill Blake, Ron Fay, Dennis Smith, Doug Hallmark, Greg Bell, Pixie Smith, Shorty Johnson, Brad Tufto, Keith Webster and Rus Hitchcock. The Boys and Girls Club is proud and honored to have such truly wonderful people involved with our kids.

Also, the Boys and Girls Club greatly appreciates the community-minded businesses and individuals who gave their financial support by sponsoring a team: Doug and Mary Blossom of Mary Time Charters, Bruce and Danielle Gabriel of Big G Electric, Agrium Kenai Operations, Tim Moerlein of Moerlein General Contracting, the Schnabl family and Tesoro.

Special thanks to Tim Delaney for conducting the coach's clinic, all the parents who stepped up to help out whenever and wherever they were needed (many hands make light work) and the referees who worked hard to keep the games safe and fair.

We are truly lucky to live in a place where people are so willing to get involved and give back to their community!
