JUNEAU (AP) -- A 19-year-old Juneau woman was severely injured when her pickup slid head-on into a truck on a Washington highway.

Shannon Cogswell was in critical condition at Spokane's Sacred Heart Hospital with head injuries and burns, her mother said Wednesday.

The accident occurred Monday night as Cogswell was heading west on Interstate 90. Her truck hit a patch of ice and careened over the center divider, striking a semitrailer truck head-on. It then crashed into a passing pickup. The semitrailer jackknifed.

Cogswell, who is a student at Eastern Washington University, was the only person injured in the accident. A shunt was put in her head to reduce swelling and she is on a ventilator, said her mother, Jody Wade.

She is expected to be in the hospital for at least another three weeks.
