Philadelphia cooks Ducks' goose

PHILADELPHIA -- John LeClair scored on a rebound of a shot by newly acquired Adam Oates at 12:26 of the third period as the Philadelphia Flyers snapped a five game winless streak with a 2-1 victory over the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim on Thursday night.

Oates, acquired from Washington for goaltender Maxime Ouellet and three draft picks on Tuesday, picked up his NHL-leading 58th assist on the play.

Rangers 5, Senators 2

OTTAWA -- Newcomers Pavel Bure and Tom Poti each scored as New York ended a four-game losing streak with a win over Ottawa.

Bure, acquired from Florida on Monday, assisted on Eric Lindros' goal 6:00 in before scoring his 24th of the season at 12:31 in his second game with New York. Bure now has three points as a Ranger after scoring in his New York debut on Tuesday.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- With tears, silence and eventually cheers, Columbus hockey fans paid their respects to the 13-year-old girl who died after being hit by a puck.

Brittanie Cecil died Monday, two days after being struck by a puck during Columbus' game against Calgary. The eighth-grader from suburban Dayton was remembered with a moment of silence before the start of Thursday night's game against Detroit.

Islanders 3, Canucks 2

UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- Chris Osgood stopped Markus Naslund's penalty shot and finished with 36 saves to lead New York past Vancouver, ending the Canucks' five-game winning streak.

Mariusz Czerkawski and Brad Isbister each had a goal and assist for New York, which is tied with New Jersey for sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 77 points. The Islanders have a game in hand.

Hurricanes 3, Panthers 2

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Martin Gelinas and Ron Francis scored in the third period as Carolina rallied past Florida.

Goalkeeper Kevin Weekes made his first start for the Hurricanes since coming from Tampa Bay in a trade on March 5. He allowed two goals on the first two shots he faced, but then didn't allow another.

Bruins 2, Sabres 1

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Rookie Nick Boynton had a goal and assist, recording his first multipoint game, to lead Boston over Buffalo.

Sergei Samsonov also scored, while Byron Dafoe stopped 25 shots, including 16 in the final 20 minutes, for the Eastern Conference-leading Bruins.

Capitals 4, Maple Leafs 3

TORONTO -- Jaromir Jagr scored two goals and had two assists as Washington beat Toronto.

Gary Roberts scored twice for Toronto, which also got a goal from Robert Reichel.

Devils 4, Predators 3

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Sergei Brylin scored two goals, one on the power play, as New Jersey beat Nashville.

Sharks 4, Flames 1

CALGARY, Alberta -- Owen Nolan scored once and Vincent Damphousse contributed three assists as San Jose beat Calgary to end a three-game winless skid.

Brad Stuart, Adam Graves and Scott Thornton also scored for San Jose.
