Greetings from Kasilof.
It's official Spring has arrived.
As Jedi Yoda would say: "Never mind that all is still and mostly brown. Pay no attention to puddles and dust, it's think of green, you must."
Longer days are just around the corner as we will spring ahead with daylight saving time April 3.
Congratulations to all the mushers from the central peninsula who competed in the 2005 Iditarod, especially Kasilof's own Lance Mackey and Paul Gebhardt.
Kasilof parents with young children are invited to participate in Childfind, a cooperative effort of Frontier Community Services early intervention, Kenai Public Health Center and the Kenai Peninsula Borough. Being offered free of charge is a series of developmental screenings for children ages birth through 5 (prekindergarten) April 8 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Kenai Public Health Center.
A public health nurse will be available to update immunizations and Head Start program applications will be available, as well. For more information or to make an appointment, call 262-3144 ext. 227.
All Kasilof and Clam Gulch children ages 2 to 12 are invited to the seventh annual Wolk family Easter egg hunt at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Tustumena Elementary School playground, weather permitting.
Divided into three age groups, the kids will hunt for approximately 1,000 eggs filled with candy, toys, prizes and Jersey Sub tokens. Hunters should be appropriately dressed for the weather and be armed with a basket or bag from home. Egg stuffing and-or hiding volunteers still are needed and encouraged to call me soon. Many thanks to donors Patty Murray and Beth Selby.
Grown-ups with egg hunt envy can participate in the Tustumena Lodge's 15th annual scavenger hunt Sunday. Sign up with Julie Soper at noon and a participant dinner will follow at 5 p.m. For further information, call 262-4216.
Caitlin Riley will spend spring break at home with her parents, Jim and Ethel Riley of Kasilof.
Somber news from Diane Norman; longtime area resident Lonnie Bruns died surrounded by family March 17 after a long battle with cancer.
Happy birthday wishes to these Kasilof folks: Carole Okamoto, Gene Jolin, Arnie Beymer, Nyla Marsilio and David Dykstra.
Celebrating their anniversary last week were Mike and Patty Murray; celebrating theirs this week are Pat and Denny Twait and Larry and Donna Kitchen.
Until next week, think sunny skies.
