Area chambers set schedules

Keating-Griebel designated a specialist

Kelly Keating-Griebel, of Soldotna, has been awarded the Certified Residential Specialist Designation by the Council of Residential Specialists, the largest not-for-profit affiliate of the national Association of Realtors.

Realtors receiving the designation have completed advanced courses and demonstrated professional expertise in the field of residential real estate. Realtors nationwide having earned the distinction number 35,000.

Keating-Griebel works for Freedom Realty of Soldotna. She also is a member of the Kenai Peninsula Association of Realtors, a member of the Soldotna Rotary and serves on the Board of Realtors. Through the board, she works with Habitat for Humanity and hospice.

Homer chamber hosts cruise ship talk

An Alaska representative of the North West Cruise Ship Association will address cruise ships and their impact at 2 p.m today at the Islands and Ocean Visitor Center in Homer.

Canned food drive events planned

A “Pint Size Workshop” cooking class is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturdays through April 29 at Allen and Peterson Cooking and Appliance Center in Kenai. This week’s class will teach students how to make cheesy biscuits.

Cost of admission to the class is two cans of nonperishable food or a $2 donation to the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank.

Curves of Kenai and Soldotna will hold their annual food drive for the food bank during March.

Workshop to open doors

The Small Business Development Center will host a workshop on the Ten Golden Rules of Marketing at 5 p.m. March 30 in Suite 16 of the Red Diamond Center. The fee for the workshop is $25.

Builders seek entries for Parade

The Kenai Peninsula Builders Association is seeking entries for the Parade of Homes, an event held in conjunction with the Home Show, held April 8 and 9. Licensed residential contractors are invited to showcase homes.

Scholarships offered

The Kenai Peninsula Builders Association is offering the Shelby Johnson Memorial Scholarship to Kenai Peninsula high school seniors and juniors. Three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded.

Applicants must be planning to attend a college or university within Alaska and planning to pursue a building-related career.

Unemployment tax refunds available

Alaskans who worked for more than one employer during 2005 may be eligible for unemployment tax refunds.

According to the Alaska Department of Labor, workers with two jobs who had more than $139.50 in unemployment taxes deducted for the year may apply for a refund.

Bed and Breakfast meeting set

The Kenai Peninsula Bed and Breakfast Association will meet at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center. Jim Kuhnsman from Alaskan Serenity B and B will conduct a mini workshop on telephone etiquette in preparation for answering the association’s 800 number.

Trail expert to speak in Homer

Trail expert Troy Duffin will speak at noon April 4 at the Islands and Ocean Visitors Center in Homer. Duffin will address how real estate developers can realize economic benefits by treating trails as assets. The event is free and open to the public.
