Peninsula did Games proud

Posted: Thursday, March 23, 2006

The Kenai Peninsula did a fabulous job in hosting and facilitating the 2006 Arctic Winter Games. We were very impressed with the organization and orchestration of such a gala event, especially just hiring a new general manager this past year. When the GM position became vacant less than a year ago, it appeared the host society was in a tenuous situation. However, upon retaining Mr. Tim Dillon as general manager, I was sure if anybody could promote a positive outcome, he was the person. His management skills and personality enabled him to surround himself with an excellent staff, which got the job done in superb fashion.

No matter how great the administration was, the finished product still depended on the excellence and passion of the volunteer brigade, all 2,800 of you! I have seen nearly every Games since 1970 and this group of volunteers was tremendous, not outdone by any of the past groups of volunteers. You did the state of Alaska proud!

Kenai Peninsula, thanks for the great Arctic Winter Games!
