Curt Duane Morris
Longtime Nikiski resident Curt Duane Morris died Thursday Feb. 9, 2006, at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage of a rare lung and heart disease. He was 58.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at the Kenai Merit Inn in Kenai. A reception will follow the services.
Mr. Morris was born June 3, 1947, in Klamath Falls, Ore. He moved to Anchorage in 1962 and graduated from West High School on June 3, 1965. He worked as a baker-bakery manager at the Carrs Food Center in Anchorage from 1963 to 1971. He moved to Glennallen with his family, where he operated and co-owned Copper Basin Distributors until 1977.
In June 1977, the family moved to Nikiski, where he owned and operated M & M Supermarket until he sold it in the fall of 1983. Mr. Morris then began working as a Realtor from 1984 to 1993. He returned as owner of M & M Market in 1993 until he sold the business in 2003. In 2005, he became the general manager for the Radio Shack stores in Kenai and Soldotna and continued until the time of his death.
Mr. Morris was the second vice president of the Pioneers of Alaska, Igloo No. 33, past president of the Nikiski Chamber of Commerce, a past president of the Kenai Board of Realtors and a member of the Wells Fargo Kenai advisory board.
Prior the moving to Nikiski, he was an avid hunter. More recently he enjoyed playing golf, snowmachining, exploring Alaska in his airplane and was and avid NASCAR fan.
“Curt was a fun loving dad, a faithful husband, a friend and mentor to many people he worked and was friends with. He was well respected by many in the business community. He met life’s challenges with strong determination and succeeded. He enjoyed vacations with his family, golf and NASCAR trips. He was a dog lover and enjoyed spending time with his dogs Brandy and Belle. He was a kind and generous man who will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him,” his family said.
Mr. Morris was preceded in death by his mother, Gloria Cadden; father, Chester Morris; and sister, Virginia Dudley.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Karen Morris of Nikiski; son, Rick Morris of Kenai; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Felix Martinez of Nikiski; granddaughter, Celina Martinez of Nikiski; brother James Vaden of Las Vegas; stepmother, Beverly Morris of Loomis, Calif.; sisters, Lynn Duby of Truckee, Calif., and Jill Donahoo of Folsom, Calif.; aunts, Arla Heath of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Charolette Dennis of Mount Airy, Md.; and many nieces and nephews.
