SOLDOTNA (AP) -- A Soldotna man died of injuries received when he fell asleep while driving on the Sterling Highway and lost control of his sport utility vehicle, Alaska State Troopers said.
William John Kraus, 69, was driving north Thursday when he nodded off and his vehicle crossed the southbound lane, went into a snow bank and collided with a tree.
A passer-by stopped to help and told troopers that Kraus said he'd dozed off just before the accident occurred. He was not wearing a seat belt.
Kraus was taken to Central Peninsula General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
