Jeanetta Jane Payment

Longtime Alaska resident Jeanetta Jane Payment died Saturday, March 18, 2006, after a lengthy battle with cancer at Central Peninsula General Hospital in Soldotna. She was 66.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Monday, March 27, at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, 225 S. Spruce St. in Kenai. Father Leroy Clementich will officiate. A reception will follow the service at the church.

Mrs. Payment was born Jan. 10, 1940, to Alvina Hayes and Bill Martin in Devil’s Lake, N.D. In 1956 she met and married Theodore J. Payment in Spokane, Wash. After living in various states, they settled in Idaho, where they raised six children. In 1977 they moved to Alaska. Over the years, Mrs. Payment worked a variety of jobs and finally found her calling as a home health caregiver.

“Jeanetta taught us a great deal with her faith, her strength and her courage since her illness. We are truly blessed to have had her in our lives. She will be missed by all of us, but we can rejoice knowing she is home. Some people come into our lives and quietly go. Others stay for a while and leave footprints in our hearts ... and we are never the same,” the family said.

Mrs. Payment is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Theodore J. Payment of Kenai; in-laws, Gladys and Darrel Payment of Kenai; daughters, Debi Payment of Idaho and Lorraine Pfennig and her husband, Mike, of Montana; sons, Glen Payment and his wife, Renee, of Nikiski, Ron Payment of Montana, Larry Payment and his wife, Janet, of Idaho and Steve Payment and his wife, Tracie, of Nikiski; sisters, Esther Hoyte of Idaho, Fran Kenney of Kenai and Merle Everson of Washington; brother, Paul LaFrance of Washington; grandchildren, Chip, Dustin and Chad Stutheit, Tyler, Logan and Ryder Payment, Brandon Raymond, Shyann and Montana Payment, Tanisha, Kayti and Tyler Pfennig, Sammantha, Whitney and Bryse Payment, Steven, Justin and TJ Payment, Tiffany Eck, Terah and Lorissa Mobbs and Tanner Payment; great-grandchildren, Calli and Aspen Stutheit, Casey Dory and Seth and Selena Payment; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, Alaska Chapter, 1057 W. Fireweed Lane, Suite 204, Anchorage, AK 99503.

Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
