HOMER (AP) -- A Soldotna man won $13,524 for catching a king salmon weighing 25.58 pounds.
Greg Lindhartsen caught the biggest fish Saturday in the Annual Winter King Salmon Tournament in Homer. A record number of 588 anglers on 167 boats competed in the eight-hour competition.
Floyd Hutton of Anchor Point won $8,820 with a 27.78-pound fish and Garrett Sitenga of Homer got $7,056 for a 26.6-pound salmon.
Over $61,000 in cash prizes and $10,000 in merchandise prizes were given away. While more than half of the competitors were from the Kenai Peninsula, 25 came from outside Alaska. The top 10 winners are Alaskans.
