Qualifications of those running for HEA board should be studied

Before we know it, it will be time for the Homer Electric Association (HEA), annual meeting and election of three people to the board of directors. Ballots will be on the way soon.

Every year we have the opportunity to elect three people to the HEA board of directors for a three-year term. There is a total of nine seats and history tells us that we are, in most cases, content in re-electing the same person to the vacant seat. Some board members served in access of 20 years.

We should want to take a good look at all the candidates in other words, their qualifications including business and community involvement, familiarization with HEA issues and the like. By doing so, we may find a change to be the proper thing to do.

With that in mind, I would suggest that when you do get your ballot/vote that you take a good look at Pat Cowan and Ron Rainey for two of the three vacant seats on the HEA board of directors. With their extensive business and community involvement it would be the right mixture of talent to serve with those remaining on the HEA board of directors.
