Mustangs finish Mariners' season

The Homer Mariners were no match for the Chugiak Mustangs at the Class 4A state tournament, losing 72-47 Friday in the consolation semifinals and getting eliminated from competition.

Jason Erickson paced all cagers with 23 points, off of eight field goals and two treys. Corey Boone maxed out at 15 points for the Mariners.

Homer overpowered Chugiak at the foul line, going 16-for-22 to the Mustangs 7-for-14.

Chugiak opened up a 25-point first-half lead, and Homer was unable to make much progress closing the gap.

Lathrop boys 58, Wasilla 50

The Lathrop Malemutes used a 16-9 fourth-quarter push to eliminate the Wasilla Warriors from the tournament Friday in the consolation semifinals.

Lathrop's Kyle Bailey led the game with 25 points. Justin Buzby -- who had 14 --was the only Warrior to crack double digits.

East boys 85, Kodiak 64

Despite dominating from beyond the 3-point arc, Kodiak fell to East Friday in the semifinals.

The Bears shot 6-for-15 outside the line while the Thunderbirds went 0-for-6.

However East was all over the glass, pulling in 49 boards and getting 16 points on second-chance shots.

Dimond boys 61, Juneau 51

Dimond continued its roll to the 4A championship game with a 10-point victory over the Crimson Bears Friday in the semifinals.

The Lynx continued to win with a stifling defense on the inside. Although Juneau nailed seven treys, Curtis Lane led the team with a mere 13 points.

Ketchikan girls 55, Bartlett 44

The Lady Kings out-rebounded and out-hustled the Bears en route to eliminating Bartlett from the 4A tourney Friday in a consolation semifinal.

Ketchikan accounted for roughly 56 percent of boards and more than doubled Bartlett's points on second chances.

Chugiak girls 36, Lathrop 34

The Mustangs barely squeaked past the Malemutes to stay alive in the state tournament Friday in a consolation semifinal.

Chugiak's Alicia Adams led the game with 15 points, including a pair of treys.

East girls 60, Palmer 44

Tenecia Macon's 18 points led the Thunderbirds over defending state champion Palmer Friday and into the championship game.

Colony girls 52, Wasilla 39

UConn-bound Jessica Moore stormed past the Warriors defense, nailing 21 points and taking the Knights into the state championship game against East.
