ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A ceremony will be held this week to dedicate Anchorage's new $58 million jail.
Construction began on the jail nearly two years ago and was mostly completed by February. The finishing touches will be added by this summer.
Prisoners will be moved to the new 384-bed jail on April 2. The jail will accommodate both male and female prisoners, and includes a booking center and courtroom for pretrial court hearings.
The 180,930-square-foot facility replaces the 40-year-old Sixth Avenue jail.
