DILLINGHAM (AP) -- A Dillingham man was killed Monday in a snowmachine accident, according to Alaska State Troopers.

The victim was identified as Albert Ball Jr., 58. He was hurt early Monday afternoon while riding a snowmachine back to Dillingham from Aleknagik.

Troopers said Ball was riding with a family member when he apparently drove into a crevice at the Muklung River, and struck the far side. He suffered extensive head and lower body injuries. The other rider went for help.

A National Guard helicopter with a medic responded. Ball was taken to Dillingham where he was confirmed dead.
