ANCHORAGE (AP) A man was stabbed and robbed as he walked outside an Anchorage convenience store, police said.

The 23-year-old victim was leaving the store late Monday with a beer and a pack of cigarettes when a man approached him from the rear. The man took the victim's beer and cigarettes, and stabbed him in the lower back, police said.

The victim told police he had never seen the man before. The attacker was described as a man in his 30s with brown hair and a brown, scraggly beard. He stood about 6 feet tall, weighed about 200 pounds and was wearing a brown baseball cap and a green ski jacket.

The victim was taken by friends to the Alaska Native Medical Center, treated and released, police said.
