Peninsula man indicted for sex abuse of minors

A 66-year-old man is scheduled for arraignment in Kenai Superior Court on Thursday afternoon on 11 counts of sexual abuse of minors.

Gerald L. Symens was indicted by the Kenai Grand Jury on Friday on two counts of first-degree sexual abuse of a minor and three counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor, allegedly committed against a 9-year-old during 2001 and 2002 in the Anchor Point-Homer area.

He also was indicted on three counts of second-degree attempted sexual abuse of a minor, allegedly committed against a 9-year-old child between April and June in the Anchor Point-Homer area.

Symens also was indicted on two counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor, allegedly committed against an 8-year-old child between Dec. 31, 2001, and Nov. 19, 2002, in the Anchor Point-Homer area; and one count of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor, allegedly committed against a 5-year-old child between May 1 and Aug. 31, 2001, in the Anchor Point-Homer area.

Symens is in custody in the Homer Jail.
