Donated Dumpster provides prop, collection center for festival trash

Posted: Friday, March 26, 2004

I would like to thank Waste Management-Peninsula Sanitation and their dispatcher Dennis Smith for providing a Dumpster at the Cooper Landing Community Center during the Cooper Landing Chamber of Commerce Winter Festival March 12-14.

The Dumpster served as a prop for the Sexy Senior Dumpster Cleaners' snowman entry. Four large stuffed snowmen dressed in ALPAR vests with the famous yellow "Watch For Bears" buttons, work gloves, rakes, knit hats and scarves appeared to be working to pick up litter around the Dumpster. Our entry won first place.

The dumpster also served as a collection center for all the garbage generated throughout the festival.

Thanks to the Cooper Landing Chamber of Commerce for all their work for three, fun-filled days of food and activities.

Thank You Conoco Phillips

Sterling Sixth grade students from Mr. Miller's class want to thank Conoco Phillips for giving us a donation that made it possible to go to the Challenger Center. At Challenger we did a Mission to Mars. We also made robots and learned to program them. That wouldn't have been possible if it hadn't been for Conoco Phillips. They also helped us pay for a hydroponics unit. This is growing plants without soil. Just like they do on the International Space Station. So far we all have flowers on our plants and their beginning to seed. If it wasn't for Conoco Phillips we wouldn't be able to do that either.

We appreciate their help!
