Parenting seminar scheduled

Author Rick Johnson will host parenting seminar Dynamite Dads from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Courageous Moms seminar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska in Kenai.

Mystery luncheon fundraiser slated

A mystery theme luncheon titled “Mystery of the Case of the Great Jewel Robbers” fundraiser will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. April 1 at the Kenai Christian Church Family Life Center. It is a formal affair to honor mothers and daughters, grandmothers, granddaughters and best friends. A vintage fashion show, a tea time bingo game, silent auction and tea store are some of the planned activities. Door prizes will be awarded. The cost is $100 for a table of a minimum of six. Bear baiting clinic planned

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game will hold three free black bear baiting clinics on the peninsula. Hunters who have already attended a clinic and been certified do not need to attend again. Clinics are approximately three hours long. Clinics will be held at 6 p.m. April 4 at the Kenai River Center on 514 Funny River Road; at 6 p.m. April 16 at Seward High School in Room 201; and at 6 p.m. April 28 at the Soldotna Sports Center during the Kenai Peninsula Sport, Recreation and Trade Show.

Hunters may not register a bait station in Units 6D, 7, 14A, 14B, 15, 16A or 20B unless they have successfully completed a Fish and Game-approved bear baiting clinic. For more information, call 262-9368.

Spaghetti dinner fundraiser set to dish

United Methodist Church of the New Covenant will host a spaghetti feed fundraiser from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 8 at the church. Silent and Chinese auctions are some of the planned activities. Proceeds will help defray travel cost for a youth trip to New Orleans to help with the cleanup efforts in June. DMV plans one-day closure

The state of Alaska, Kenai-Soldotna Division of Motor Vehicles office, at 43335 Kalifornsky Beach Road, and the Homer Division of Motor Vehicles office on Pioneer Avenue will be closed April 13 for annual employee training. For more information, call 262-4681 or visit www.state.ak.us/dmv.
