Former Soldotna resident Frances Artz died Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Richland Life Care Center, Richland, Wash. She was 83.
Per her request, no services were held.
Mrs. Artz was born Aug. 30, 1925, in St. John's, Wash., to Fred and Cleo Roberts. She married Bernard H. Artz in 1947. The couple raised their family in Tri-Cities, Wash.
"A native of Washington, Frances grew up and went to school in the Green Mountain/Amboy area. As a young woman, she lived in Vancouver, Wash., and worked as a welder in the shipyards at Jansen Beach, Ore., during World War II. In 1968 she moved to Seattle then to LaCenter, Wash. In 1975 she worked at St. Joseph Hospital in Vancouver. Frances moved to Soldotna in 1979. She loved her life in Alaska but returned to the Tri-Cites in 1998 to be with her children. She resided at the Desert Villa Apartments in Kennewick, Wash. She was an active member of the senior center, the Kettle Scrapers Choir, and the KGH Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Soldotna hospital's auxiliary. Her body will be cremated and the memory of her soul cherished forever," her family said.
She is survived by 12 children; 37 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sisters; and many other relatives.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the local hospital auxiliary in her name.
Arrangements were made by Life Tributes Cremation Center, Kennewick.
