Students recognized for academic excellence

Posted: Friday, March 26, 2010

The Academic Recognition Banquet was held March 23 at KCHS. The Academic Recognition Program was started 15 years ago when a group of parents and school staff wanted to create an outlet which rewards students for their excellence in the classroom. It has flourished since that time. More than 160 students were honored for achieving a grade point average of 3.5 and above.

Attendees at the banquet were entertained by members of the KCHS concert band under the direction of Mrs. Deborah Sounart. The evening's guest speaker was Jennifer Tyler, a KCHS graduate and local business owner. Ms. Tyler inspired the students with her timely message that students need to pursue a career which meets their passion.

Scott and Dena Cunningham of McDonalds deserve a thank you for their continued support of this program. Members who helped coordinate the event include Alan Fields, Jim Beeson, Connie Jung, Patty Lawyer, Stacia Rustad and Edi Macik. We are fortunate to live in a community with businesses and organizations that are always willing to support our kids
