Homer man wins salmon tournament

HOMER (AP) -- A Homer resident is $7,199 richer after landing a 40.89-pound king salmon and winning the Homer Winter King Salmon Tournament.

John Bolbos was among 313 anglers who paid their $100 entry fees to fish in Sunday's tournament.

The top 10 anglers shared in $25,040 in prize money. Bo Calhoun of Homer was second with a 37.43-pound fish and Charles Wood of Soldotna was third with a 34.99-pound salmon.

A total of 128 fish were landed between the 98 participating boats during the eight-hour tournament.
