ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A 27-year-old man fatally stabbed his mother in their home near Wasilla, Alaska State Troopers said Thursday.
Aaron Butler was in custody, charged with first-degree murder in the death of Grace Butler, 54.
A niece of the woman's called authorities just before 9 p.m. Wednesday to report the stabbing from the victim's home, troopers said. The caller had gone to visit her aunt and found the woman on the couch, bleeding from her face and abdomen.
Grace Butler told the niece she had been stabbed by Aaron Butler, who locked himself in the bathroom, troopers said.
The niece called 911, then ran out of the house when Aaron Butler came out of the bathroom.
Grace Butler was taken to Valley Hospital in Palmer, where she was pronounced dead.
Aaron Butler was arrested at the home. He was being held without bail.
Troopers said they were continuing to investigate.
