May Faire scheduled
The second annual Kenai River Council on the Arts May Faire Renaissance celebration will be from 3 to 9 p.m. May 18 at the Kenai Fine Arts Center on Cook Avenue in Kenai. Catering will be provided by Mykel's Restaurant. The event will feature arts and crafts booths and activities for all ages. Poems accepted in Fairbanks
The Fairbanks Art Association's Literary Arts Committee is accepting entries for its ninth annual poetry contest. The purpose of the contest is to encourage, publicize and reward the writing of high quality poetry. Contest winners will be announced in April during National Poetry Month and will be published in the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner's Heartland Edition. There are three divisions -- elementary and middle school, high school and adult with first, second and third place cash prizes awarded in each category. The judge will be Lynn DiPier.
The entry deadline is 5 p.m. Monday. Each author may submit no more than four poems. The entry fee is $3 per poem or $10 for four poems for elementary, middle or high school students and $4 per poem or $13 for four poems for adults. Each poem must be original, typed on a standard size piece of paper and must not exceed 100 lines in length. The cover page should include the author's name, address, phone number and category, as well as the titles of all poems submitted. The author's name should not appear on any of the poems. No entries will be returned. A list of winners will be sent to any entrant if they include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

Poetry contest ongoing
Hollywood's Famous Poets Society is sponsoring a new poetry contest with a grand prize of $1,000. The entry deadline is April 18. A winner's list will be sent to all entrants. Editors reserve the right to publish winning poems online or in a pamphlet.

Boutiques searching for crafts
Bad Girls of the North is seeking artists, artisans and crafters for its 2003 holiday unique boutiques. There will be an Anchorage show, a Fairbanks show and a Matanuska-Susitna area show. Prospective artists should send four photos that represent their work to P.O. Box 670178, Chugiak, AK 99567. The deadline for submissions is April 30.

T-shirt design contest announced
The Pratt Museum in Homer is sponsoring a T-shirt design contest for area students. Grade categories are kindergarten through third, fourth through sixth, seventh and eighth and ninth through 12th. The winning designer will get $100. Runnera-up in each grade category will get a $25 gift certificate for the Pratt Museum Store.
Students may enter as many designs as they want. Designers are encouraged to use their imaginations to create their favorite Pratt exhibit or a collage of images from the Pratt that has inspired them.

Fine arts camp accepting registrations
The Sitka Fine Arts Camp is accepting registrations for the 2003 camp. The two-week camp will be held at the Sheldon Jackson College campus in Sitka from June 16 to 30 and is open to students in grades seven through 12.
The camp provides students the opportunity to take classes and study with professional artists in the areas of dance, theater, music, Alaska Native arts, writing and visual arts. Space is limited, so early registration is advised.
