Games gear is going ... going ...

Time is running out for those who have not yet purchased their Arctic Winter Games memorabilia.

Sales of merchandise including T-shirts, hoodies and sweatshirts will end Friday, according to Games General Manager Tim Dillon.

The only place to purchase the merchandise is at Raven’s Roost in the Instant Replay store on the Sterling Highway in Soldotna.

Store owner Darlene Glick said she still has sweats and sweatshirts, T-shirts and hoodies “in limited sizes,” as well as water bottles, Hobo Jim compact discs, limited edition hockey pucks, some beanies and small tote bags.

The store will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

After Friday, all remaining merchandise will be gathered up and saved for use at the Games Volunteer Appreciation Rally, April 4.

Dillon said volunteers originally had been promised mock turtleneck shirts as part of the gear they would be issued, but a production problem resulted in the shirts not coming.

“What we decided to do — everybody coming to the thank you party will get a ticket for an item of leftover Arctic Winter Games merchandise,” he said.

Dillon said each item of merchandise will have a ticket number assigned to it and as the volunteers arrive for the rally, each will receive a ticket.

If someone ends up getting a shirt that isn’t the right size or color, or gets a Hobo Jim CD, but really wants a shirt, they will be encouraged to swap gear with another volunteer.

“It could lead to a big swapping party, like a continuation of what went on after the closing ceremony,” Dillon said.

The appreciation rally also will include a barbecue for the volunteers, presentations and “some surprises,” according to Dillon.

“We’re going to celebrate ‘Wow, what a great job everybody did,’” he said.
