Nikiski girls take academic award

The Nikiski girls basketball team, which won the Class 3A girls state basketball title, also won the award for the highest grade-point average. The Bulldogs had a 3.59 GPA.

In addition, Nikiski’s Hannah Thompson, Sasha Auldridge and Sarah Herrin were named to the Class 3A girls all-tournament team. Others on the team were Sara Morris and Skeeter Atoruk of Mt. Edgecumbe, Michelle Villarma of Wrangell, Whitney Connor of Valdez, Ashley Jelly of Eielson, and Piggy Pili and Rebekah Gueco of Barrow.

The Class 3A boys all-state team was Lonnie Ridgeway, Trenton Millar and Thomas Millar of Heritage Christian, Kallen Hawley and Kynan Adams of Cordova, Damen Bell-Holter and Zach Klein of Mt. Edgecumbe, Cameron Severson of Petersburg, Bobby Pico of Barrow and Travis Pew of Eielson.
