The Kenai Peninsula Hockey Association Tier IV Squirts took second place in the 2007 Alaska State Hockey Championship at the Soldotna Sports Center on Monday. KPHA lost in the championship game 7-2 to Juneau. Grey Wilson, assisted by Toma Johnson and Stephen Brown, and Johnson, assisted by Tommy Blada, had the goals for KPHA. Juneau’s goalie made nine saves while KPHA’s Conner Pearson, who shared net time with Allison Ralston throughout the tournament, had 33 saves.
The 10-team tournament started Friday at the Sports Center and KPHA finished with a 5-1 record. KPHA defeated Fairbanks 6-0, Wasilla 11-2, Palmer 7-1 and the Anchorage Boys and Girls Club 8-0. In the semifinals on Monday, KPHA pulled out a 6-5, overtime victory over Healy.
