Redoubt erupts late Friday afternoon

An eruption of Redoubt Volcano occurred at approximately 5:35 p.m. The National Weather Service reports the cloud height to be approximately 40,000 feet above sea level based on radar.
The Alaska Volcano Observatory is monitoring the situation closely, the observatory is staffed 24/7.
No ashfall advisory has been issued at this time.
