Kenai police officers took an adult male into custody Friday night after an eight-hour stand-off at the Highland Trailer Park.
According to a press release written by Kenai Police Chief Gus Sandahl, officers responded to the scene around noon and made contact with "an unstable adult male." The man had broken out several windows of a trailer, which he refused to come out of.
When negotiations continued to deteriorate, officers secured the perimeter of the trailer and called for backup from an Alaska State Troopers tactical unit. Surrounding trailers were subsequently evacuated and the rest of the neighborhood was briefed on the situation.
The man was taken into custody eight hours later and the neighbors were able to return to their residences. Due to recent behavior, police had a court order to take the man into custody for a non-criminal evaluation. As of press time Saturday, he had not been charged with any crimes.
The Kenai Police Department said they could not release any further information at this time, including the man's name or address.
