Mayor Bagley speaks in Kenai today

The speaker for this week at the Kenai Chamber of Commerce luncheon will be Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Dale Bagley. The meeting will be noon today at the Old Town Village Restaurant. The public is invited.

Social Security representative to visit area

A social security representative will visit Kenai City Hall from noon to 4 p.m. today. For more information, call (800) 478-4828.

Black bear-baiting clinic scheduled

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game will be holding four black bear-baiting clinics on the Kenai Peninsula. Hunters who have already attended a clinic and been certified do not need to be certified again. The dates and locations are:

Kenai: Thursday, 6 p.m., Cook Inlet Aquaculture Building

Seward: April 4, 6 p.m., Seward High School Room 201

Kenai: April 10, 6 p.m., Cook Inlet Aquaculture Building

Soldotna: April 27, 6 p.m. Kenai Peninsula Sport, Rec and Trade Show, Soldotna Sports Center

A hunter may not register bait in Units 7, 14A, 14B, 15, 16A or 20B until a Fish and Game-approved bear-baiting clinic has been successfully completed.

KBEA scholarship applications available

The Kenai Borough Employees Association scholarship committee is accepting applications for four scholarships of $500 each. The scholarships are available to all 2001 graduates of the Kenai Peninsula Borough, including public, private and home-schooled individuals.

Applications and instructions are available from any Kenai Peninsula Borough High School counselor's office, at the information desk of the borough building in Soldotna or at www.borough.kenai.ak.us.

Applications must be delivered or postmarked by March 30.

Village Fair planned

Healthy Communities-Healthy People will hold its sixth annual Village, Health and Safe Kids Fair Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Soldotna High School. For more information, call 260-3800.

Photos needed for wall of hope

The Tobacco Alliance of the Peninsula is looking for pictures for the Wall of Hope. Photos are needed of area residents who have quit smoking and would like to be recognized for their accomplishment. The Wall of Hope will be displayed at the Village Fair, and pictures will be copied and returned to the owner.

Soccer referee clinic offered

An indoor soccer referee clinic is being offered to anyone over 14 interested in reffing for the Boys and Girls Club Spring Youth Indoor Soccer League. Referees will be needed weekday evenings and all day Saturday from April 7 through May 12. The clinic will be held at the Boys and Girls Club Saturday from 8:30 through 10:30 a.m.

Umpires needed for summer season

The Kenai-Soldotna Softball Umpire Association will begin classes for the summer 2001 adult softball season. Classes will be held at 7 p.m. Mondays at the Soldotna Elks Lodge. The classes will include rule clinics as well as on-field mechanics. Registered umpires will be paid on a sliding scale based on experience. For more information, call Richard Conti at 283-8409.
